How much does an app cost? How often I hear this question, and I still can’t give an immediate answer.
I’d love to be able to say a figure, just one word, bang. But the truth is there is no answer to this, as the question is too vague. It’s the same as saying “How much is a holiday?”. It could be $100 for a weekend at the coast, or $30,000 for a year long round trip. It depends on what you do.
So, really, how much does it cost to make an app? Well, start with somewhere between $1,000 and $1,000,000.
It depends on what the app does.
If you’re building an app for a bank, expect the top end. If you’re building a simple app, that uses standard iOS components, that doesn’t require a robust backend database or API, that has great artwork already done for it, expect the lower end. Complex functionality adds significant cost to building apps, as you are building full scale software applications, running on small devices. And good design can be expensive, expect to pay great UI designers at least $80 an hour. I found an interesting ‘app quote calculator’ from an app dev company here how much to make an app.
So, it can be hard to say how much an app costs until you know exactly what it does. But if you want to definitely save yourself the money hiring a designer to make custom designs, and save time coding by having them hooked up to working template screen, check out our new iOS7 app templates.
